Stat of the Month – Taxing Times
According to H M Revenue and Customs 275,000 tax payers in the UK (representing 1% of all tax payers) pay 25.7% of the UK’s entire income tax.

1% of tax payers account for 25% of all UK income tax.

An equally concerning statistic is that Britain’ 100 largest companies bore or collected 11.9% of the UK’ total tax take.
Ian King, Deputy Business Editor of The Times, comments that these companies are not in the UK for the weather but because they like to trade in a country where taxes are predictable.
Any change to that could see an exodus. King called for the tax base to be widened and for George Osborne to signal an end to the top line 50% rate of income tax.
