China National Holiday Boosts Macau Gaming Revenues
China’ National Holiday week at the start of October has helped Macau’ casinos earn revenues of MOP 10.8 billion (US$ 1.35 billion) in the first nine days of the month, according to Lusa the Portuguese news agency.

Shares in the listed gambling operators – like SJM Holdings and Wynn Macau – fell dramatically in late September amid fears that a downturn in mainland China’ economy would hit gaming spending in Macau.
The evidence from early October is that this fear has not materialised as yet and Macau’ casinos are set for another record month. Revenues for the month could pass MOP 25 billion, exceeding the previous monthly record of MOP 24.77 billion, set in August 2011.
Macau’ tourism office also released figures for visitor arrivals in the holiday week which showed a 13% rise in visitor numbers. Some 776,000 people arrived in Macau during that week alone.
