Singapore has toppled Australia from the top of the gambling spend per capita list, just a couple of years after the two integrated casino resorts opened in the sovereign city-state.
New research for Global Betting and Gaming Consultants’ 9th edition of the Global Gambling Report shows that Singaporeans spend US$ 1,376 per capita on gambling per year, some way ahead of the Australians (US$ 961).
Prior to the opening of the casinos in Singapore the city state did not feature in the top five of the gambling spending charts, so it has been a rapid rise to the top in just a few years.
Canada is in third place with a spend of US$ 494 per capita, some way behind the top two jurisdictions.
The expansion of gambling in Italy, particularly internet gambling and gaming machines, has seen Italian spend per capita hit US$ 400, putting it in 5th place behind Hong Kong (US$ 454).
