Measures taken to halt the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Q1 2020 have now caused the shutdown of gambling markets totalling more than 50% of global gambling revenues (as at 25 March 2020).
In recent days shutdowns have been announced in New Zealand, South Africa and Australia. All commercial casinos and all but a handful of tribal casinos are now closed in the US.
Several of the shutdowns imposed have no set end date. Some of the earliest restrictions to be imposed, in China and Macau, are gradually being lifted.
