The Colorado Belle Casino and Resort, Nevada, is closing indefinitely, with the loss of 400 workers. The resort is a replica of a paddlewheel riverboat and is moored on the Colorado River in Laughlin.
The Colorado Belle has been closed since mid-March, in line with Nevada’s efforts to tackle COVID-19.
Charles Protell, CFO for the resort’s operator Golden Entertainment, explained the decision was made because of the “significant economic impact from the governor’s ordered closure of our industry and continued uncertainty of when we will be allowed to fully resume operations”.
“The decision has not been made lightly, but unfortunately we see this as our only recourse to mitigate ongoing expenses and anticipated reduced business levels while facing competitive pressures from neighbouring states allowing their casinos to reopen”.
