A record contribution in lottery duty in 2019 helped to offset declines in Machines Games Duty and push total UK gambling duty past GB£ 3 billion.

Lottery duty increased by GB£ 126 million in 2019 to GB£ 964 million, the highest level since the National Lottery began in 1994.

Machines Games Duty fell by GB£ 152 million, after the maximum stake in B2 machines was limited to GB£ 2 in April 2019.

HM Treasury anticipated this reduction and increased Remote Gaming Duty at the same time. The rate was increased from 15% to 21%.
