UK gambling duty fell by 7% in 2020, as the impact of the pandemic lockdown was felt on the gambling sector. Total duty was GB£ 2.8 billion, which was down from a record level of GB£ 3.0 billion in 2019.
But it was a tale of mixed fortunes for different parts of the UK gambling sector. Gaming duty (paid by casinos) fell by 64%, whilst bingo duty was down by 57%.
On the other hand, lottery duty fell by just 3%. Remote gaming duty rose by 31%.
Lottery duty and remote gaming duty now account for 63% of all UK gambling duty (2019: 53%).
